Reform's Form Designer allows users to enhance, design, and print forms
generated by their application. Using a WYSIWYG approach, Reform's Form Designer is very easy to use. In order for Reform to
generate the printout that is needed, a template must be created
for each of the forms. The template serves as a new layout for
each of the forms generated by the application. This is similar
to pre-printed forms which has the text overlaid on the form. Whenever
a form output is generated from an application, the form is always
given an FOM extension.
Reform
has 3 methods of Form Design. The following are the methods listed from shortest to longest amount
of time needed:
1.
If sending from a Windows application
that already has formatting or sending from an AS/400 with
AFP formatting. There is very little design needed with these methods since the application already has the formatting included (lines, graphics, colors). If needed, additional formatting can be added using the Reform Designer. However, Reform will mainly be used to distribute
the documents to the different output devices such as printers,
MFPs, fax, email
and archival storage systems. In order to determine where to send the document to, Reform will
extract the ASCII/text information and retrieve
email addresses, fax numbers, etc. from the document.
2. Importing a backdrop. Reform can import backdrops from graphic
images or graphic programs. One of the most common solutions is
to scan an existing form and apply it as a backdrop. Once the backdrop is inserted, all that is needed is a map of the variable data from the application.
3. Creating the backdrop from scratch. The Reform Designer comes
with all the tools necessary to create any type of backdrop for
forms. Since it uses a "what you see is what you get" approach, it is incredibly easy to use.

Reform uses the Windows system fonts to dynamically enhance the map information and can perform any font properties such as size and color. Third party fonts can be used as well.
