FabSoft's Rules Based Routing provides intelligent distribution of print jobs by maintaining maximum print productivity using the minimum amount of resources. In a multi-printer business environment, time and resources are frequently wasted due to lack of control over print decisions. A complex and elaborate document sent to an inappropriate print device can become a more expensive print job with longer completion time than if it was sent to a more suitable device. The purpose of the Rules Based Routing plug-in is to define rules that will route print jobs to the most convenient and cost-effective printer. Where documents are sent depends on defined rules regarding factors such as user, use of color, paper type, size of document, and number of pages. Large documents that are resource intensive can be blocked from being sent to certain printers, or automatically routed to the fastest printer on the network. Reform’s Rules Based Routing is able to monitor an unlimited number of printers and will submit documents to the device with the least amount of print jobs in queue. Printers that are inoperable due to out of paper and offline errors are instinctively bypassed, and the print job is re-routed to the next available monitored printer. The user is notified of the status of their print job and what device their document was sent to; which ensures job completion. Detailed print history is stored into a database allowing output activity and device usage to be closely monitored and analyzed. Print Process with Rules Based Routing
When a user prints out a document, they are presented with print options- color, black & white, staple, collate, duplex, paper type, etc. The user will select the options and submit the print job. The selected options are then used to determine the most suitable printer based on the pre-established rules. The print job is sent to the appropriate device, and the user is notified of the print job status and the destination.
